The Social Scene in 2015

Thursday, December 18, 2014

The only thing that is constant in life is change. If there is one lesson we have learned over the evolution of social media it is that change is inevitable and if we don’t prepare to succeed than we are setting up to fail. The best way to set yourself up for success is to take what you know and use it to predict what lies ahead. We have seen social media flourish throughout the years and are now gearing up to take 2015 head on!

Here are a few social media predictions for the social media scene in 2015…

More Data Analysis

Competition will become even fiercer as companies continue to jump on the social bandwagon. Unlike previous years, simply having a social media presence will not be enough. 2015 will be a year of honing in on the data behind your brands efforts and performance. Social media metrics will become a must for businesses looking to optimize and personalize their social media influence. As a company, you have to figure out what you’re doing right so you can continue to satisfy your audience. In the coming new year brands will spend less time on content creation and more time analyzing data that will reveal what is working and what is not living up to their company’s potential.

Mobile First

Optimizing for mobile will no longer be a choice or a “good thing to have” in the year ahead, it will be a requirement. Given the frequency of smart phone use worldwide, mobile screens will become the first to be considered. Plan to create websites, social content, and anything else with a mobile first mindset and prepare to see this trend stick around for a while.

Visual Content is Now King

A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when it comes to engaging on social media. In such a fast paced world speed is everything and glancing at an image takes substantially less time than reading text. Visual branding will skyrocket in 2015 with platforms like Snapchat, Vine, Instagram and Pinterest leading the way. Video content will also soar into 2015 with flying colors. Videos will become a pivotal element to social media and YouTube will not be the only player. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter will compete with YouTube for the top video destination. Brands that are the most equip for 2015 will incorporate visual branding into their social strategy and keep their graphics and videos consistent.

More than a Connection Network

Social media is becoming more than just a network to connect.  It is continuously expanding and entering uncharted territories that go far beyond its original purpose. In 2015 social shopping will become the norm with features like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest’s “buy” button. Social platforms will be able to sell their audience by using real-time data to offer trending products without forcing users to leave the network. They will benefit from connecting Tweets and Facebook posts directly to actual purchases, which has been posed as a challenge in the past but will be made possible in 2015.

Today, social media can be used to connect with people on an entirely new level. In 2015 we will see these connections come to life as Millennial’s make their way up the hierarchy, sparking innovation and triggering a digital revolution.
